Our Clinic Is Coming Home

Three years ago, we opened Nebraska's only non-profit, high-volume spay and neuter clinic. We opened it because our animals were waiting — days for basic care, sometimes weeks for a spay or neuter — and because families in Gage County needed veterinary care they could actually afford.

It worked. Since opening our doors at 7th and Ella, our clinic has given pet owners a low-cost option, made TNVR possible for feral cat colonies across our community, and built the model behind the Fix 'Em Clinic in Wymore in 2025 and the Big Fix in Fairbury in 2026. Fewer litters. Fewer kittens born into suffering. Fewer animals dying before they ever got a chance to live.

Now it's time to bring it home.

Why move the clinic into our shelter?

Faster care for the animals who need it most. Right now, our medical team is across town from the animals they treat. A sick shelter pet may have to wait half a day, or sometimes even longer at our shelter before a member of our veterinary team can trek across town to evaluate them. After the renovation, that same animal walks down a hallway to a veterinarian — not across Beatrice in a transport van.

Better protection for strays. Our contract with the City of Beatrice and Gage County lets us provide emergency care during the mandated 72-hour stray hold. But you can't treat what you can't see. Housing our stray intake and our medical team under one roof means every stray gets real eyes on them, right away when they need it the most.

Hours back for the animals. Every week, our staff spends 10+ hours loading, driving, and unloading cats and dogs — and another 10+ hours cleaning kennels after every trip. That's over 1,000 hours a year spent on a van ride. We'd rather spend it on the animals.

Donations for care, not rent. We own our shelter outright — building and land, paid in full by our amazing supporters like you since 2018. Today we pay rent and a second set of utilities downtown to provide our clinic a place to grow and help our community even more then we could have imagined even 10 years ago. Bringing everything under one roof ends that expense for good and puts your donations back where you intended it: on the animals.
