Family Planning:

Promotes the well being of families, responsible behavior, and healthy babies. Prevents unintended pregnancies through education including  absitence and contraceptive services, and allows planning and timing of pregnancies.

Family Health Services will not refuse patients based upon age, race, gender indenity or the inability to pay.  FHSI helped 872 patients through 1,235 visits to our clinics. Family Health Services also conducted 114 Breast Cancer Screenings and 87 Cervical Cancer Screenings last year, Here is a snapshot of our patients:

  • A person who is one unexpected bill away from a crisis

  • A single parent working 2 jobs and who has not seen a doctor in 3 years

  • A college student who can't afford her birth control refill

  • A person in a small rural community whose nearest option just closed

  • A young man who is avoiding getting tested for an STI because he can't afford the out of pocket expense

A cornerstone of our work is the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, administered by Family Health Services and People’s Health. Through WIC, we provide critical nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and supplemental foods to support healthy pregnancies and early childhood development.

  • Family Health Services WIC helped 300 women and 710 children in 2025.  In Beatrice we helped 110 women and 230 children.

These services play a vital role in reducing health disparities and improving long-term outcomes for low-income families across our Nebraska communities.

What Families Experience in Our WIC Clinic in Beatrice:

  • Scheduled Health Appointments
Regular check-ins help families stay on track with growth and nutrition milestones.
  • Eight‑Week Checkups for Infants
These early visits are critical for monitoring healthy development and addressing any concerns as babies grow.
  • Nutrition Reviews
FHS Staff review each child’s eating patterns, appetite, and overall diet to identify needs and guide families toward healthier choices.
  • Counseling and Education
    Families receive one‑on‑one support for:
    • Nutrition planning
    • Breastfeeding education
    • Healthy eating habits for all ages

Support That Strengthens Families

To ensure that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of healthy nutrition:

  • FHS staff review monthly family income, food costs, and any financial aid the household receives.
  • Based on these assessments, families qualify for monthly benefits that help purchase healthy groceries at participating retailers.

  • Families also receive free supplemental baby formula, reducing the financial pressure during a child’s first year of life.

However, our ability to sustain this work has been impacted by the loss of Title X funding, resulting in an annual reduction of approximately $65,000–$100,000. This loss significantly affects our capacity to provide affordable reproductive healthcare and preventive services to those who need them most.

Despite these challenges, our organizations remain committed to ensuring continuity of care and expanding access to high-quality, integrated health services.

Thank you for your continued interest in and support of our mission.
