Fundraiser Story

Since July 1st we have taken in 36 dogs as strays and owner surrenders locally from Beatrice and Gage County, with less than 50% of the strays being reunited with their owners, resulting in 26 new mouths staying in our. We only have 24 dog kennels. This is unsustainable, even one more month like this will put us over our capacity for care. We cannot provide appropriate daily and medical care for this many dogs each month and it will very quickly put us at risk of having to make decisions we haven't had to make since 2015, our first year as a no-kill shelter. The medical care alone for these 26 animals will cost us over $5000, to care for them daily for 21 days (our average length of stay for a stray/local surrender), is another $8000+. Adoptions of our large dogs (typically what comes in locally) are at a standstill. We can't help more animals until we have helped the ones already in our shelter.
