Fundraiser Story

Mabel was adopted from BHS as a puppy on March 29th 2024 by an eager family with children. Sadly, almost exactly one year later, on March 27th, 2025, she was returned to our shelter as an unruly teenage pup with no leash manners and big attention getting behaviors. It was very shortly into her stay when we recognized that she had no ability to calm herself when over excited. This was a compounded problem in our shelter environment which tends to be loud, and chaotic. She has also developed some dog reactivity, and if we don't work on these behavior problems, she is at high risk of progression into dog aggression. We have time to act, but we need to act now. Every day she stays in our shelter without good coping mechanisms, and without learning a more appropriate way to greet dogs, we risk further decline until we are left with no option but euthanasia for her safety and the safety of our staff and other animals in our care. This training will be lifesaving for this girl. It will give her the tools to be an appropriate member of society. It will firmly move the scales back towards adoption and away from anything else.
