Our Mission: Keeping Families Together-One Surgery at a Time
At Beatrice Humane Society, we believe pets are family. But often, we hear from local veterinarians-like Beatrice Animal Hospital and Oakview Veterinary Clinic-about families facing heartbreaking choices. Their beloved pet needs a lifesaving surgery, but the cost is out of reach. In today's economy, where disposable income has shrunk and veterinary costs have risen, these moments are more common than ever.
That's why we created the Lifesaving Surgery Program-a donor-funded initiative that ensures no pet is euthanized or surrendered simply because their family can't afford a one-time, critical procedure.
Real Stories, Real Impact
Major, a five year old Olde English Bulldogge was diagnosed with painful bilateral glaucoma of his eyes, unfortunately it had already taken his vision and the only treatments would be to eliminate the pain. After receiving an unaffordable $3000 estimate from a specialty hospital, his owner was forced to decide between watching his dog in pain daily, surrendering his dog to a rescue for surgery or even euthanasia to relieve his pain. Fortunately one of those rescues he reached out to about surrender told him about our program. Within 3 days, Major was scheduled and had a bilateral enucleation- both eyes were removed instantly removing his pain. Even waking up from surgery you could see the relief, he still can't see, but Major got a second chance at life. Maybe more importantly, Major's owner wasn't forced to make one of the most gut wrenching decisions a pet owner can be faced with.
This is just one of nearly two dozen pets saved through our program in the last 2 years. Each one is a family spared from grief-and a pet given a second chance.
Your donation during Big Give Gage will help us subsidize surgeries like pyometra, foreign body removal, and limb amputation.
Your donation will keep pets with the people who love them most.
We work directly with veterinarians to ensure pets receive care while maintaining their relationship with their primary vet. This isn't a replacement for veterinary care-it's a bridge when families are out of financial options.
Our Goal: $5,000
This will allow us to fund at least 10 more surgeries-10 more families who won't have to say goodbye too soon.
Together, we can ensure that no pet is lost to a number in a bank account. Because the love of a pet should never be limited by a price tag.
