She Survived. Now She Needs Us.
A couple of weeks ago, we introduced our followers to Reba-a stray dog with no collar, no microchip, and no one coming forward. As we searched for answers, we learned of another dog, eerily similar in size and appearance, running scared in the same part of town.
We tried not to imagine the worst: that someone could abandon not one, but two dogs. But no one came for Reba. And no one seemed to be looking for her twin.
Reba was lucky. She was found quickly, taken to safety at our shelter, treated medically, and now she's curled up in her forever home with the title of "Adopted"
But her sister? She vanished. The last sighting was the first week of August-after someone reported a dog hit by a car, dragging her back leg as she fled. Our hearts clung to hope. Our heads whispered we were too late.
???? Until this morning.
A new stray arrived. Limping. Silent. Terrified. And unmistakably Reba's mirror image.
She is alive. She is injured. She is scared. But she is safe.
We don't know how these two ended up alone in Beatrice, but we do know they needed care. Reba required basic medical care including a spay and a hernia repair that cost over $500.
Her sister? The financial impact this one dog will have on our organization will be large, and its too soon to even estimate. WE know there will be either a fracture repair or amputation, weeks of rehab and pain meds, a spay, a hernia repair and maybe other problems we haven't even found yet. But there is no one else to help her.
She fought for almost three weeks with a broken femur to find safety and love. We will ensure she get it. All of it- Safety, Love, Time to Heal, and Adoption… get ready sweet girl because your new forever starts now.
Donate to Big Give Gage to help Reba, her yet to be named sister, and all of the other stray animals that enter our shelter needing emergency veterinary care each year. There is no where else to turn. We have to be here for them.
